Gam Rest

21 March 2016

A few nights ago I attended a birthday party for my good friend Jan  hosted by his wife Christyne at their beautiful villa UMAH TAMPIH here in Ubud. They had guests visiting from the USA so presented a performance of Balinese gamelan and dance by the group GUNUNG JATI from the village of Teges. [Above: group members waiting to perform] This group does a wonderful job of preserving Balinese traditional culture especially the dance performaces which are taught to the young. Their gamelan is already well known and has toured abroad.

This dance is called the “Legong Keraton” (keraton means “palace” so this is a “royal” version).
